Ruwaya Al Shamsi

Founder of RAWA & Mother

As a new mother, I experienced the universal challenge of understanding my infant’s needs. There was nothing out there that could help me understand my baby (besides mothers instincts), and help my baby communicate with me, and despite maternal instincts, the inability to verbally communicate often led to frustration and uncertainty. Seeking a solution, I turned to basic sign language that I have referred to from the book “Baby Signing”, teaching my child basic signs for hunger, tiredness, completion, and bath time. By consistently pairing signs with spoken words, particularly in Arabic, I was delighted to witness my child’s rapid progress in communication. Inspired by this experience, I envisioned RAWA as a tool to bridge the communication gap between parents and infants. This innovative learning program aims to empower young children by providing them with the tools to express themselves effectively. Through engaging content and a focus on Arabic language and culture, RAWA seeks to foster a love of learning and promote early language development.

Hi,
I'm Majed!

The Puppets
We created Majed and Mahra to spark kids’ love for learning through characters who feel like friends from their own world. Majed, the curious toddler, bounces with energy and shows that it’s fun to ask questions and explore. Mahra, the wise and kind Arabian horse, teaches that learning never ends and loyalty and kindness make us strong. Together, they take kids on exciting adventures filled with stories, laughter, and lessons inspired by our beautiful Arab heritage—making every moment a chance to grow!
The Puppeteers
Media Vault, a full-service media agency, believes in the media’s power to shape young minds and preserve culture. Joining an Arabic learning entertainment program for children aligns with our vision of connecting kids to their roots through creativity and innovation. RAWA’s remarkable program blends puppetry and education beautifully, using clear Arabic within an artistic framework full of life. As Wajih Qaisiyeh notes, “There are many characters we love on screen but can’t touch—puppets are real, and RAWA brings them to life.” Riham Ishti adds, “RAWA blends entertainment and education in eloquent, expressive Arabic.”
